Spec Kitchen to Spectacular
Challenges: Hindered conversation between the kitchen and living areas.
Removing the non-load-bearing, partial wall allowed room for a 6 foot island with sink, microwave and dishwasher on one side and 4 counter stools on the other, as well as unobstructed views between the kitchen and living area.
Challenges: Dated, spec-house stock cupboards and counters and bulky soffit around the perimeter.
A custom hood, crisp, white subway tile, as well as tall upper cabinets and spacious, roomy lower drawers add form and function.
Challenges: Refrigerator and dishwasher in close proximity to one another and walkway through kitchen.
Relocating the refrigerator to the outer wall and dishwasher to the far side of the island allows for better flow. Adding paneling allows for a custom built-in look, as well as storage above and a bonus wall for a cheery display of vintage Fiestaware mugs.

“While working with Jennifer virtually it felt as if she was right in the room with me. She helped to turn a crowded underutilized storage space into a home office/reading room which is now our favorite room in the house. After describing our vision during a video tour she quickly provided detailed blueprints of everything from structural options to furniture size suggestions. She was warm, enthusiastic, and as excited about the potential as we were. Working at a hospital and raising four children aged 8 and under, I was grateful for the time she spent shopping for a chair that perfectly fit the time period and color scheme we were after. She never imposed her personal taste, but would gently assist us with feedback such as, “that chair might feel overwhelming with the room dimensions”. Her enjoyment of the process was evident throughout and made the home improvement experience feel less like a chore.” -Liz A
