Welcome Home.

Every home (or part of your home) tells a story.

If you come up our front walkway (and it’s summer or early fall) we have several garden pots of pansies. I love the array of vibrant colors, unique varieties and colorful combinations. In addition to their intrinsic beauty, pansies remind me of quiet, unassuming and intentional hospitality.

Grammie, my mom’s mom, always grew and pinched back pansies at her home in Lakewood, Colorado. When I was seven, we moved across the country to Virginia. Upon returning for a visit, I would run up the stairs to “my” room and find pansies floating in cut crystal bowls on the dresser. Without speaking a word, she clearly communicated “welcome home, we’re so glad you’re here.”

While I don’t float my pansies in cut crystal bowls, I plant them every summer to remind me of my Grammie (with her beautiful blue eyes) and the humble hospitality I wish to grow and develop in and throughout our home.  “Welcome home - we’re so glad you’re here.”
